NLP & guided imagery
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created in the United States in the 1970s.
Imagery exercises use creative imagination to “picture” scenarios that relax and heal. They can be done on your own, or with a facilitator guiding you, which is called guided imagery.
A common relaxation practice is to mentally picture yourself in a pleasant place that puts your mind and body at ease. For example, imagine yourself lying on a beach with the sun shining, listening to the waves. It is important to imagine a place that has a positive association for you. (An ocean beach may not be a pleasant place for everyone!)
Studies done with cancer patients show that the use of guided imagery markedly improved stress levels. Imagery exercises are also effective for stress reduction, anxiety management, and post-operative healing.
Hypnotherapy can effectively treat a range of emotional, psychological and physical problems. Hypnosis teaches how to achieve a deep state of relaxation to address issues such as weight loss, smoking cessation, anxiety, pain relief, unwanted habits as well as self-improvement.
Real hypnosis bears little resemblance to the stereotyped images presented for example in movies. The hypnotist does not hypnotize the individual. Rather, the hypnotist serves as a sort of coach or tutor whose job is to help the person become hypnotized” While hypnosis is often described as a sleep-like trance state, it is better expressed as a state characterized by focused attention, heightened suggestibility and vivid fantasies.
How can I benefit? Hypnosis is often used for pain relief, depression, anxiety, stress, unwanted habits, and many other psychological and medical problems. It has been shown particularly effective during childbirth and in pediatric settings, and even provided anesthesia during surgery and painful medical procedures.
Are there any precautions?
Hypnosis is a safe process, allowing a natural state of focused attention to occur.
Life coaching draws upon a variety of tools and techniques from other disciplines such as sociology, psychology, neuroscience, and
career counseling with an aim towards helping people identify and achieve personal goals.
